Any discrimination is unacceptable!

-Isms… I’m done with them all.

Why is it that is you stand for one thing you can’t stand for something else. In America, there is a thing called privileged but if you are not a straight white male, you don’t know the true meaning of that word, nor does it pertain to you.

I know some believe that all white people have a privilege attached to them, but if they were born with a vagina, that is simply not true. If that are attracted to the same sex, its not true.

I can feel my ancestors kicking me in my back and a few stares from my black peers. Yes racism is strong, and yes our black people are being killed in these streets for being a color that they cannot control. But its not just us. As much as we want to fight for equality, we should also hear the next persons complaints on why they are oppressed.IMG_7128

There are latinos who are still getting stereotyped in Hollywood and called Mexicans, no matter what country the originate from. They are portrayed as a sex symbol and men definitely don’t respect their women. For all points and purposes they are treated like our black men and women.

Asians, Muslims and Jewish are all disrespected. Women are disrespected, as well as the LGBT community.

We are all dying for the same rights. We are all fighting the same fight. Why can we not fight together?

I had a friend, whom out of respect I will remain nameless, who debated with me and thought because I was speaking up that I was only speaking up for the LGBT community. As if my blackness and me being a woman was thrown out the window because I am a member of that community. Last time I check I am still black, I am still a woman.

I have three strikes against me according to the current administration, so why do I have to pick one over the other to stand up for? I stand for justice for all. IMG_7194

Today I am pissed for several reasons and one is the results of the Philando Castile murder. He was murdered as a friend put it but we just don’t know who. Apparently the video his girl posted wasn’t enough for a conviction. The screams from her and his daughter wasn’t enough to put a man in jail for shooting his weapon in cold blood.

I am angry because a year after the Pulse shooting, people still have the nerve to think that we deserved it because we are sinners. As if their best friends sleeping with their husbands wasn’t a sin. As if the kids they had out of wedlock and the pointing fingers and judging others wasn’t the same. I am angry that people are using the Bible, the word of God, as a means to spread hate.

I am angry that Amber Rose posted a racy picture in honor of the annual Slut Walk and all people could do was call her the very thing she’s standing up against. Her biggest haters were women who wish they could post a picture of the same or who do but hate that she added a feminist words to it. A woman body is objectified daily and looked at as a means of sexual gratification whether we allow it or not. If she was topless it would be a problem, if she only showed thigh, it would still be a problem.

I am angry that everyone in the world is worried so much about how others live their lives that they will ruin their own to make someone else miserable. Gay marriage was voted in federally to be allowed in the United States and it has been a fight ever since. If two men get married how is it bothering your daily life? If two women are raising children in a household of love, why is that harmful but your house full of abuse and hatred isn’t?

I am tired of the hatred in this country, in this world. I feel like the current administration gave people who are filled with hate a platform to express it. Yes there is freedom of speech, but why is it ok for you to disrespect me, but not ok for me to respond? Even if nothing I said is laced with hatred.

America is no where near being great, I have no idea what era Trump was talking about. It seems to me that America is hate. Everyone is hating everyone else, yet everyone is fighting for the same thing. Respect!

The best way to get respect is to look internally and start respecting yourself. Then and only then will you gain respect of others.

Black Privilege – Charlamagne Tha God

I know I normally do reviews on movies or tv shows, but while driving down the back highways from Arkansas to Mississippi I decided to go to Audible and listen to a book that keeps crossing my eyes. Charlamagne’s Black Privilege. His subtitle was Opportunity Comes To Those Who Create It.

I have to admit with Charlamagne’s rep for having a smart mouth and always speaking the truth I had to see what he had to say. I mean usually when you see Privilege, Black is not what you see in front of it. The title helped but honestly it was all about him. I would of bought it even if it had the original title “I don’t give a fuck and neither should you.” I mean come on it’s Charlamagne. The one radio host who doesn’t give a fuck what he asksScreenshot 2017-05-29 11.13.48 any artist. If its something in the media, he will address it. If he thinks your album is whack, no matter who you are, he will tell you. He has no problem speaking his mind and going after what he wants and I needed his words to interrupt my mind. To tell me the magic that made him who he is.

To my disappointment, there was no magic, but there was more than that, there was words that pushed me to do more, to stop doubting myself and become a better me. Live in your truth, thats his words but I have to admit the phrase that stood out to me was not even his own.

“You gotta put the weed in the bag” This quote was from Belly and he explained that its because most people know where they want to be and always dream of where they should be but don’t put the footwork in getting the job done. You gotta put the weed in the bag first and sell it before you make that money = you gotta put in the work to achieve greatness. Stop dreaming and start working. What did I hear? Start writing!!!

Charlamagnes story was dope. He explains the same thing I have always believed that making it doesn’t always put money in your pocket at first. You can’t be afraid to take that unpaid internship, or take a pay cut if it gets you closer to your dream. Money will come if you follow the steps that are meant for you. Don’t listen to the bullshit from others who tell you that you should chase the money. Naw, chase the dream!

Now I have to admit if you don’t like fowl language or if crude analogies make you squeamish or block the messages you hear, then don’t read it. Because he says whatever he has to say to get you to understand including telling you how you were once a sperm who beat the odds to fertilize the egg, you made it, don’t let that be your only shining moment. He addresses everything and points fingers where they need to go. He tells you to blame yourself for not making it and stop blaming others and situations for your failure.

This book, or audio book in this case, is worth the read. I listened to most of it the entire trip and was so into it that I was irritated when someone (mainly kids) called me from the backseat. This book made me wake up and realize that I have the same 168 hours a week as every one else. As Charlamagne pointed out he is up by 4:30 am and has done more work by 10 am that many have done all week. We can work a full-time job, do an internship and take care of ourselves and our families and MAKE IT!

I recommend this book to anyone trying to find themselves, redefine themselves or trying to go after your dreams. If you need a dose of tough love and not a sugar coating book like most self-help books then this one is for you. I hope that he continues to grow and writes more books, yes, he is a radio personality but I think this makes me want to listen more and follow him. His opinion is necessary, his words are necessary, his push is necessary.

Keep it up Charlamagne, you have a true new fan here!

Moana – A Kids Movie With Real Life Problems.

I know, I know I am super late right, but hey… Here we go! So Moana is definitely a Disney movie that is all the glitz and glamour. It has the catching songs, bright colors and bubbly characters. Animals and all.

So here’s where to me the message stood out. In the beginning, Moana’s mother tells her that who she wants to be is not always who she is supposed to be. WRONG! The ocean continues to call her to her destiny, to be great! Everything that Moana was supposed to find out she did, partly because of her “crazy lady” grandma and fate.

See no matter how much her parents told her to be safe and go one way, the way that the family had been doing for years, she was drawn to her purpose. I know I have felt like that, like following the “rules” wasn’t meant for me. That I lived at a different pace. It seems when I go that different route, things happen for me. Like bread crumbs… follow the good feeling.

Now what would have happened if Moana listened to her parents who told her to ignore her urges and follow the way the tribe had been going for generations? The way of the land would have died off along with its people. Sometimes following rules and going by the book is not the way to go. Sometimes you need to think outside the box and follow your heart. Your dreams will lead you where you are supposed to go in life.

In life you cant live for everyone else, you have to beat your own drum no matter the odd beats that may escape. At first it wont be a rhythm that you will recognize, it may take a weird route and be hard times, but in the end it will be YOUR beat! Moana did what she set out to do, she delivered Mauwi to restore the heart of Tafiti. She did what her family thought she couldn’t do, and in doing so she was met with a sense of accomplishment and a better way of life for her people.

This is an important message in life because we cannot live our lives for other people. We have to fight to make the best of our lives here on Earth, to not only make a name for ourselves, but to be able to look in the mirror after retirement and know that we lived our lives to its fullest. No one including your parents are going to change their course of happiness for you, so why do you need to do the same for them.

As parents our job is to raise you and prepare you for the real world, but it should also be to support you in all you decide you do in life. I teach my daughters the opposite of Moana’s parents. I teach them to follow their hearts and do what they know is right and what they can live with. It gives them freedom to make decisions but also the life lessons that comes with consequences and rewards on real life terms.

Be at peace and follow your heart, because living life as everyone else is boring. Be the best you that you can be.

Mistakes Lead to Greatness

“A person who never made mistakes, never tried anything new.” ~ Albert Einstein
Someone is always judging you no matter what you do in life. Part of being great is taking risks. How will you know if something will work if you don’t make a few mistakes along the way? Do you know how many tries it took to get the right ingredients for a light bulb? It took Thomas Edison 3,000 attempts to invent the lightbulb. 3,000 attempts!!! I’m sure someone along the way told him to give up, or told him that he needed to do something different. Where would we be if he would’ve listened? In the dark!
My point is giving up should never be an option, no matter what people say. You have to follow your heart and do what you feel to do. Otherwise you will always wonder what if and resent the ones around you who discouraged you from doing what you felt.
Whose to say your dreams may encourage someone else. Maybe your mistakes will turn out to be something great. Did you know that potato chips, x-Ray images, plastic, matches and coca-cola (to name a few) were mistakes. Each of the inventors were trying to create something different but came up with something else great.
So don’t fret when someone talks down on you. Let them talk, cause if they’re talking you must be doing something right. Besides think about it, if they are so busy talking about you they can’t follow their own dreams, which leaves more room for you. Also the same people talking down on you, will be the same ones with their hand out or looking for recognition when you succeed. Ignore them because misery loves company.
